Day Dos

5th Ave.

BEAutiful church.

Hello again everyone!

Time for an update about what's been going on since I got here.

Monday I took my first big trip (outside of my 10 block radius.)

I got my Metrocard and was on my way. I take the J train into Manhattan and switch off at Delancey St. to head north towards the main part of the city. By miracle, I have not gotten lost or on the wrong train yet. I still have a sense of impending doom. My day will come, but I am SO thankful that I have inherited my father's good sense of direction. Otherwise I'd be a basket case. I did meet a wonderful woman on the way into Manhattan for the first time, she was from Dothan, oddly enough! She knows the Lord, and actually was just in Panama City for a concert or something of the like at First Baptist downtown. It was very weird. I think the Lord knew I needed someone to talk to.

I walked up 5th Ave. and down 6th Ave. ( FYI- Avenues run North and South, Streets run East and West) I wasn't really interested in shopping, but I got some good pictures. I also walked down Broadway and a couple of other streets as I zigzagged through the city. I just wanted to get some sense of direction going. I didn't really realize how much I walked because I was so interested in what I was looking at. I ended up walking about 4 or so miles. I wore holes in the toes of my socks. I stayed in Manhattan all day. I ate at an international cafe close to Rockefeller Center. As I was leaving, I told the woman I was sitting next to that I thought her dress was really pretty. She thought I was crazy. I stopped at Starbucks because I have a gift card from Christmas. All of you Starbucks fanatics at home need to be thankful for how cheap a cup of coffee is down there. It's over 4 dollars for a tall(small) cup! I guess I will never get over the price differences here. Needless to say, I won't be frequenting Starbucks much anymore. Such is life. Towards the end of the night I finally got ahold of the guy (Chris) who I will be working with at Graffiti. We made plans to meet the next day. It was nice to make a friend. Here are my picture endeavors for the day.

The Sky was so blue!

I just liked how the building was shaped. Also that it had "Grace" written over it's door.

The Subway that runs over Jamaica Street.

This is the end of my street that I see everyday. (Jamaica St.)

Day Uno

Hellloooo, Everyone!

I made it.

The flight from Orlando went smoothly. I flew into JFK at 9:30am Eastern time this morning and caught a cab to my new apartment. It's quaint. My room is the size of my aunt's walk-in closet, but I like it a lot. I'll make it my own once I've lived here longer. (My house is to the left.)

My roommates are all out of town. It's peculiar because when I walked in, there is a turtle in a cage on the living room table, water bottles half empty in the kitchen, and a teapot on the stove. My landlord left a note saying no one is home until January. It still seems odd considering the signs of life in the apartment. Who knows. I suppose I will feed the turtle who I presume to be Niel. ( There is a sticky note in the bathroom that reads "Feed Niel!")

I got here pretty early this morning, unpacked, and ventured out of the house. I live right off of a very busy street called Jamaica Street in Queens. I walked around awhile ( attempting to look like I knew where I was going-- I failed). I got hit on, told I resembled a hoe, payed far too much for lunch, and bought groceries not considering the fact that I had to carry them all the way home. I'm not in Panama City anymore. My car was not parked just outside. I had something like 6 bags to carry and I was about 10 or so blocks from home. One would think this would go through a person's when checking out, but common sense tends to wane when you are in a very unfamiliar place, paying $7 dollars for off-brand cereal, and suffering from sleep deprivation. ( My street-- 88th Street to the left)

ALL is well. The Lord is good. I've gotten an e-mail from the other Graffiti intern, and he says that he has friends in town and would love to show me around. I'll take him up on his offer come tomorrow. For now, I think I'm going to read and relax and get ready for this next week. I already miss home,  but I assume that's normal. I'll be posting more pictures of my room and the citylater this week.

I love you all and will keep you posted on how I'm doing.
